While touring Europe in the late 1800s, sharpshooter Annie Oakley (1860-1926) demonstrated her dazzling skills by shooting the ashes off a cigarette held by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. When World War I broke out in 1914, Oakley reportedly sent the Kaiser a letter requesting a second shot.
