Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) contracted polio in childhood, which left her with a deformed right leg. As a teenager, Kahlo was in a serious bus accident, which resulted in 11 fractures to her right leg. In her 40s, gangrene set in, and she was forced to amputate that right leg. There’s a Daniel Day-Lewis biopic in here somewhere.
