In the 1970s, feminist writer/artist/activist Kate Millett (1934-2017) founded the Women’s Art Colony and Tree Farm near Poughkeepsie, NY. Later renamed the Millett Center for the Arts, it provides artist-in-residence accommodations and creative work space for female artists from all over the world.
