Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) holds the world auction record for female artists, with her painting ‘Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1’ selling for over $44 million in 2014. However, O’Keeffe’s work is still dirt-cheap compared to that of male painters Picasso, Modigliani, Van Gogh, Bacon, Renoir, Munch, Warhol, Klimt, Rubens, Lichtenstein, Rothko, Monet, and Cézanne, who can boast auction totals ranging from $86-$179 million. Apparently paint is worth more when exposed to a Y chromosome.
