Diarist and author Anaïs Nin (1903-1977) was a bigamist. Nin married Hugh Parker Guiler in 1923 and then Rupert Pole in 1955; she split her time between Guiler in New York and Pole in Los Angeles, keeping track of her various deceptions on file cards stored in a ‘lie box.’ Problems arose when both men sought to claim her as a dependent on their tax returns, and the Pole marriage was annulled in 1966.
